2008 Summer Olympic Games: Day II
Just days into the Olympics and the United States is in third place overall with a total count of 12 medals, only 3 of which are gold.
The newest addition to the count of the gold medals was for Swimming in the Men’s 4×100m Freestyle Relay by Michael Phelps, Garret Weber-Gale, Cullen Jones, Jason Lezak, Nathan Adrian, Ben Wildman-Tobriner and Matt Grevers. The two silver medals won on Day III both came in Swimming from Katie Hoff in the Women’s 400m Freestyle and Christine Magnuson in the Women’s 100m Butterfly. The fifth bronze medal was won by Corey Codgell for Shooting in the Women’s Trap Event.
Currently the overall standings are the United States in third place with South Korea and China in second and first place respectively. South Korea has 4 gold medals and 4 silver medals while China has 9 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 2 bronze medals. China’s gold medals were earned in Diving, Judo, Shooting and Weightlifting. South Korea earned their gold medals in Archery, Judo and Swimming.
