2008 Summer Olympic Games: Day I
In case you missed it, the United States have a total of 8 Olympic medals.
The two gold medals come from Mariel Zagunis in Fencing for the Women’s Individual Sabre and Michael Phelps in Swimming for the Men’s 400m Individual Medley. The two silver medals were earned by Sada Jacobson also in Fencing and Natalie Coughlin, Lacey Nymeyer, Kara Lynn Joyce, Dara Torres, Julia Smit and Emily Silver in the Women’s 4×100m Freestyle Relay for Swimming. The four bronze medals came from Becca Ward in Fencing, Katie Hoff in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley. Ryan Lochte in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley, and Larsen Jensen in the Men’s 400m Freestyle.
Currently the overall standings are the United States in third place with South Korea and China in second and first place respectively. South Korea has 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals while China has 5 gold medals and 2 silver medals. China’s gold medals were earned in Diving, Judo, Shooting and Weightlifting. South Korea earned their gold medals in Archery, Judo and Swimming.
In progress already are Weightlifting, Fencing and Soccer in which the United States is down by 1 to the Netherlands. Fencing is scheduled for later today at approximately 8:40pm after Basketball in which Team USA will play against China at 10:15am.
